More than three-quarters of U.S. newsrooms are white and do not reflect America's diversity. Meanwhile, press freedom rankings in South Asian countries are plummeting. This means that South Asian news often gets short shrift in mainstream media.
At the same time, South Asians are juggernauts and South Asia is increasingly affecting everyone's lives, globally. In 2020, Sen. Kamala Harris became the first Black and Indian vice president in U.S. history. People are getting off Facebook, and yet, whole groups dedicated to South Asian memes and other South Asian communities are booming. Studios are increasingly investing in South Asian content.
And we’re taking a cue from other targeted media companies: The Athletic with sports, Blavity for Black millennials, and The Infatuation for restaurants. South Asians and South Asian news and stories deserve representation, and we’re here to provide it.
